Guwahati: The Assam Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will issue fresh summons to 10 members of the Assam Association Singapore in connection with the mysterious death of singer Zubeen Garg, after they failed to appear before the investigating agency within the stipulated deadline.
CID Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta said that while notices had been served to 11 NRIs from Assam, only one of them — Rupkamal Kalita — has so far appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for questioning.
The state CID had earlier issued notices to several members of the Assam Association Singapore, requiring them to appear before it by October 6.
“We are going to issue fresh summonses to all of them who have not come yet. We will move ahead as per the legal processes,” Gupta said.
Gupta confirmed that Kalita appeared at the CID office on Wednesday for the second consecutive day of questioning, following over 24 hours of interrogation on Tuesday.
“We are in touch with the NRIs in question. Since they are stationed abroad, certain legal frameworks are involved, and we are communicating through the proper channels. We hope they will cooperate and join the investigation soon,” he added.
Meanwhile, Assam Police DSP Sandipan Garg, a cousin of late singer Zubeen Garg, was arrested on Wednesday (October 8) in connection with the singer’s death in Singapore last month.
