Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday assured that the chargesheet in the death case of Assamese singer and state icon Zubeen Garg would be submitted within the stipulated three-month period.
“The inquiry is proceeding as expected. We have made arrests one after another, and I am confident the Assam Police will submit the chargesheet on time,” CM Sarma said on the sidelines of a government programme in Dibrugarh.
The chief minister added that all the accused will be presented before the court. “Usually, three months are allowed to submit the chargesheet, and we will not take longer than that to ensure the court can deliver justice after the investigation,” he added.
Sarma admitted there had been some delays, pointing out that most members of the Assam Association who were with Zubeen Garg during his final moments in Singapore have yet to appear before the SIT investigating the case. He appealed to the public to remain “patient.”
“We are working on how to bring them back and are making the necessary arrangements. We need to have patience — if we lose it, no one will get justice,” Sarma cautioned.
He also announced plans to meet Singapore’s ambassador to seek assistance from the Singaporean government.
“Considering Assam’s relationship with the country, I am confident of receiving their help. The Singaporean authorities have already sent the forensic report, so submitting the chargesheet should not be difficult,” he stated.
