The Central Government has released the second installment of the 15th Finance Commission grants for Panchayati Raj Institutions and Rural Local Bodies in Assam for the financial year 2025-26.
Amounting to Rs 256.60 crore in untied grants, the funds are for all eligible District Panchayats, Block Panchayats, Gram Panchayats, and Autonomous District Councils.
The funds have been released through the Ministry of Finance, on the recommendation of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the Ministry of Jal Shakti’s Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation.
These funds are allocated to all eligible 27 District Panchayats (DPs), 182 Block Panchayats (BPs), 2,192 Gram Panchayats (GPs), and the three Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) in the State of Assam, namely Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), and Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC).
Additionally, Rs. 42.70 crores, representing the withheld portion of the first instalment of the untied grant for the current fiscal has been released to the three eligible ADCs (BTC, KAAC, and DHAC).

The Untied Grants will be utilized by PRIs/RLBs to address location-specific needs under the twenty-nine subjects enshrined in the Eleventh Schedule of the Constitution, excluding expenditure on salaries and other establishment costs.
The Tied Grants may be utilized for the provision of basic services, including sanitation and maintenance of ODF status, which includes the management and treatment of household waste, human excreta, and fecal sludge management in particular; and the supply of drinking water, rainwater harvesting, and water recycling.
