The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a State Bank of India (SBI) official in Assam for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe from a customer seeking to process loan applications for rooftop solar installations.
The accused, identified as Abhisek Sen Gupta, is posted as Assistant Manager-cum-Loan Officer at the SBI branch in Gumi in Kamrup (Rural) district.
According to a CBI statement issued on Friday, he was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹16,000 from the complainant.
The case was registered on March 12 after the complainant alleged that the bank official had demanded the amount as an illegal payment to process loan applications of customers seeking financial assistance for rooftop solar electrification projects.
After verifying the allegations, the CBI laid a trap and apprehended the officer while he was accepting the bribe.
Following the arrest, searches were conducted at the accused’s premises as part of the investigation.
Officials said the arrested bank officer will be produced before the Special Judge for CBI cases in Guwahati.
The investigation into the case is ongoing.

In a separate development earlier this week, the CBI also arrested one of its own inspectors in Delhi in a bribery case, underscoring the agency’s stance against corruption within public institutions.
Inspector Deepak Phalswal was arrested on March 10 after he was accused of demanding illegal gratification from a private individual in exchange for not taking action on a complaint allegedly filed with the agency.
The CBI initiated an internal probe following the complaint and later apprehended the officer.
Searches at Phalswal’s residence reportedly led to the recovery of incriminating documents and electronic records.
He was subsequently produced before a court, which granted the CBI two days of police custody for further questioning.
