GUWAHATI: In a move to enhance healthcare facilities in Silchar, the Cachar district administration has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL).
The signing ceremony took place at the old conference hall of the district commissioner’s office in Silchar on January 4.
District Development Commissioner (Cachar), Rajib Roy, and Senior General Manager of PGCIL, Anjan Sanyal, formally signed the MoU, outlining the corporation’s commitment to advancing healthcare services in the region through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
Supriya Paul, Deputy General Manager of PGCIL and in-charge of the Silchar unit, reiterated the initiative’s focus on contributing Rs. 3,09,22,444 crore for healthcare items under the CSR scheme, aligning with the goal of ensuring healthy lives and overall development.
Commissioner Roy expressed his appreciation for the collaboration, stating that with the funds provided by PGCIL, a dedicated care unit and paediatric ward for sick newborns would be established at the SM Dev Civil Hospital in Silchar.
He also highlighted the significance of the paediatric ward in handling emergency and life-saving cases.
“We are glad to sign MOU with Power Grid Corporation as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility activity,” remarked Roy.
He further elaborated that PGCIL would contribute advanced vital diagnostic and therapeutic equipment to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
Discussing the health infrastructure in Cachar district, Roy acknowledged its gradual improvement but stressed that patients still had to travel to Shillong or Guwahati for certain services.
The advanced healthcare facilities supported by PGCIL would play a crucial role in saving lives, particularly for those who couldn’t afford extensive travel expenses, he added.
Sanyal, explained the objectives of the CSR activities, highlighting the commitment to sustainable development and the well-being of communities.
