GUWAHATI: Assam’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anurag Goel has said that by-elections for five Assembly constituencies of the state are likely to take place in September.
The Chief Electoral Officer said during a press conference held at Janata Bhawan on Friday.
The constituencies where by-elections will be held are Samaguri, Sidli, Dholai, Bongaigaon and Behali. The Assembly seats became vacant after the incumbents were elected to the Lok Sabha.
“The by-elections will follow the boundaries of the old assembly constituencies,” CEO Anurag Goel said.
A draft voter list for these constituencies will be released on July 30, with a window for objections from July 30 to August 10, he said.
The final voter list is scheduled to be published on August 20.
Political parties will receive the draft electoral rolls on Saturday (July 20) and are required to submit their views by July 27.
Claims and objections cannot be made online and must be submitted through forms at the office of the district commissioner via the Booth Level Officer (BLO).
Assam Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah recently said the party would contest all five Assembly seats where bypolls will be held.
