Guwahati: An accident occurred in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Saturday when a school bus carrying students overturned, resulting in the death of a Class-3 student and leaving several others injured, as confirmed by local officials.
The incident took place near the 19 kms area, under the jurisdiction of the Umrangso police station, when the school bus reportedly lost control while navigating a sharp turn.
The vehicle subsequently overturned, turning on its side and causing widespread panic among the students aboard.
According to Debojit Borah, field officer with the District Disaster Management Authority, the deceased student has been identified as Dalimar Ronghangpi.
The young student tragically lost his life on the spot due to the impact of the accident.
In total, around 16 students sustained minor injuries from the crash.

However, six others were critically injured and were rushed to Ham Hospital in Hojai for urgent medical attention.
The condition of some of these students remains critical, and authorities are closely monitoring their progress.
Emergency response teams, along with local police, were swift to arrive at the scene of the accident.
They immediately began assisting the injured students and securing the area for further investigation.
The police have launched a thorough inquiry to ascertain the exact cause of the crash.
Preliminary reports suggest that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle, but an official determination will be made after a comprehensive investigation.
“The emergency response teams, along with police personnel, reached the site promptly, and all injured students were quickly provided with necessary medical aid,” Borah said in a statement.
“We are committed to taking all necessary precautions and measures to ensure the safety of children and prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.”
Authorities are also expected to conduct a detailed review of the bus’s maintenance and driver’s qualifications, as part of efforts to ensure that safety standards are met to prevent further tragedies.
