Sribhumi: A bridge over the Singla River at Anipur Bazar under Ramkrishnanagar in Assam’s Sribhumi district collapsed on Wednesday morning.
The incident reportedly occurred while vehicles were crossing it, disrupting traffic in the area and damaging vehicles. Further, several people have been injured in the incident.
This bridge collapse adds to growing concerns over infrastructure safety in Sribhumi.
According to eyewitnesses, panic broke out immediately after the bridge gave way, leading to motorists and passengers stuck at the site.
The incident is said to have caused damage to two heavy dumpers, two hatchback cars, a motorcycle and an auto-truck.

Circle Officer Souvik Dutta arrived at the location with police personnel and other administrative officials upon being informed about the incident. Rescue operations were immediately launched, and traffic in the area was regulated, reports said.
Following the earlier collapses of the Harang Bridge at Bangarpar and the Bhaga Sherkhan Bridge at Bhaga, this repeated failure points to a serious administrative lapse.
Locals say that despite previous warnings and incidents, overloaded dumpers continue to operate unchecked. This issue goes beyond infrastructure failure. It directly impacts public safety, regional connectivity, and the economic survival of the Barak Valley.
