GUWAHATI: In a significant boost to Assam’s apparel industry, Apparel, Made-ups & Home Furnishings Sector Skill Council (AMHSSC) opened its Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Guwahati, recently.
The CoE, which is fifth-of-its-kind in the series, aims to address the challenges faced by the state’s apparel sector, enhancing the efficiency in product development, research, and workforce skilling.
The centre will provide a slew of courses, ranging from Industrial Engineering and Production Supervision to Fashion Sampling Coordination and Fashion Business & Marketing.
The centre was officially inaugurated by Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, underscoring the government’s commitment to advancing skill development and fostering entrepreneurship.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Dr Kalyan Chakravarthy, Principal Secretary, Assam government and Brig R. K. Singh (Retd), Managing Director, North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation.
Padma Shri Dr A Sakthivel, Chairman, AMHSSC, expressed his heartfelt gratitude and reaffirmed the Council’s dedication to aligning with the government’s mission to promote the growth and competitiveness of Assam’s apparel industry.
He also highlighted the Centre’s pivotal role in contributing to the region’s socio-economic development, instilling a sense of hope and inspiration in the audience.
“The CoE in Guwahati stands out with its cutting-edge apparel manufacturing technology, offering a truly immersive industry experience,” said Dr. Sakthivel.
He further added that the CoE’s alignment with government initiatives like DDUGKY and Samarth, ensuring the accessibility of these invaluable educational opportunities.
Dr. Vijay Kumar Yadav, CEO, AMHSSC, offered a more expansive view of the Centre’s impact, stating, “CoE is designed to serve as a hub for project work, internships, seminars, workshops, and upskilling programmes, ensuring that students and professionals remain at the forefront of the latest industry trends. This initiative aims to foster innovation and elevate the standards of the apparel industry in the Northeast.”
He added that as a centre dedicated to excellence, it will play a crucial role in nurturing talent, driving economic development, and contributing to the overall upliftment of the apparel industry in Assam and the Northeast.
“The CoE is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the government, industry stakeholders, and educational institutions, all working towards a common goal of skill enhancement and economic prosperity,” he added.
