Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet was expanded on Saturday as Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) MLA Charan Boro took oath as a minister.
The oath-taking ceremony was held at Raj Bhavan at 11 a.m. Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Boro, a two-term MLA representing the Majbat constituency.
The development follows the Bodoland People’s Front’s (BPF) sweeping victory in the recently concluded Bodoland Territorial Council elections. The party had been extending support to the ruling BJP-led coalition in the Assembly without being a formal ally.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary were also present on the occasion.
Charan Boro’s induction into the Cabinet signals the Bodoland People’s Front’s return to the ruling NDA alliance after years in opposition. The move is viewed as a strategic step ahead of the next assembly elections, bolstering the party’s influence in state governance.

“Congratulations to Shri Charan Boro for being sworn in as a Minister of Government of Assam today. Today, the NDA Parivar has grown further in Assam as we formally welcome the @bpfront, a party which has always championed the cause of our Bodo people to the Govt,” Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted on X.
