GUWAHATI: Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) chief Hagrama Mohilary has claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) alliance is heading for a split.
Addressing the press at a poll rally at Salakati Eidgah, Koktajhar, on Tuesday, Mohilary asserted that the prospects of UPPL are very poor in this election.
“Rifts are already apparent in the alliance and they will split right after the Lok Sabha poll results,” he said.
Campaigning for its candidate in Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency, Khampa, the former Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief informed that the party has been conducting a grassroots campaign and organised six rallies on April 16.
Claiming that BPF has no “competitors” in both Udalguri and Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seats, he highlighted the massive crowds in party rallies as proof of the BPF’s exceptional support among the masses.
Earlier in March, Borgoyary had accused the UPPL of financial malpractice and “divisive politics”.
He pointed fingers at the leaders of UPPL for allegedly taking money, under the guise of facilitating access to ration cards, government housing, and the Arunodoi scheme.
He also challenged the credibility of UPPL’s top leaders, claiming that more and more accusations against them have been emerging.
In the run-up to the polls, the BPF has seen a significant exodus of members to the UPPL, owing to its poor performance in recent state elections where it secured only four of the contested 12 seats in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
The BPF had previously been an ally of the BJP in 2016 but was replaced by the UPPL as the Saffron Party’s new alliance partner in the BTR.
