GUWAHATI: In a fiery speech at a poll rally in Assam’s Dhubri, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of amassing record wealth within a decade while neglecting the welfare of the public.
Vadra asserted that the BJP had become the world’s richest party in just 10 years, a feat that the Grand Old Party, Congress, did not achieve in its 70-year tenure.
“BJP became the world’s richest party in just 10 years, Congress didn’t earn so much in 70 years,” Priyanka Gandhi declared during her address at the Nyay Sankalp rally, organised in support of Congress candidate Rakibul Hussain in the Lok Sabha seat.
Furthermore, Vadra alleged the existence of a “mafia raj” in Assam, implicating Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in multiple scams.
She also hinted on a covert collaboration between Sarma and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief and incumbent Dhubri MP, Badruddin Ajmal, drawing parallels to BJP’s alleged alliance with Owaisi in Telangana.
In her scathing critique, the Congress leader also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, branding him as “egoistic” and disconnected from the struggles of ordinary citizens.
She also pointed out the Prime Minister’s alleged indifference towards Janata Dal (Secular) MP Prajwal Revanna, who faced allegations of involvement in a sex scandal.
“PM Modi is far away from the reality of common people. He has no understanding of their miseries as he has become egoistic,” Priyanka asserted.
Earlier on April 30, Vadra had questioned PM Modi’s silence on the scandal, especially given his past association with Revanna during electoral campaigns.
“The individual (Prajwal Revanna) who stood alongside Prime Minister Modi, for whom the PM solicited votes, stands accused of abusing thousands of women. The numbers are staggering. I want to know Modi’s response to this. I am keen to hear what the Union home minister has to say,” Vadra remarked, underscoring the need for accountability from the nation’s leaders.
