GUWAHATI: In a star-studded event at Shilpagram, Guwahati, one of the country’s premier research-based biodiversity conservation organisations, Aaranyak, bagged the prestigious Biju Phukan Recognition Award 2023 in the category of Best NGO.

The award, presented by Royal Affair during a glittering function on December 19, recognised the organisation’s diverse initiatives dedicated to biodiversity conservation and the enhancement of human well-being in the region.

Dr Alolika Sinha, Executive Member of Aaranyak, and Bobby Nath, Senior Manager – Administration, proudly accepted the award on behalf of the organisation.

Expressing gratitude, Dr Bibhab Kumar Talukdar, Secretary General and CEO of Aaranyak, said, “I am really thankful to the family members of Late Biju Phukan, who was an iconic actor, a social figure of Assam. Aaranyak being conferred with the Biju Phukan Award 2023 as the premier Environmental NGO is indeed a privilege for all of us. Such recognition further cements our zeal to contribute towards environment and wildlife conservation in the region.”

He also took the opportunity to appeal to the film and music fraternities in Assam to promote environmental and wildlife conservation through their respective domains.

The event saw the presence of distinguished personalities from the Assamese film industry including Pranjal Saikia, Jatin Bora, Kapil Bora, and Nishita Goswami, adding a dash of glamour to the occasion.

Aaranyak, established in 1989 as a nature club, has evolved into one of the nation’s leading biodiversity conservation organizations.

The Biju Phukan Recognition Award acknowledges outstanding contributions across various sectors, honouring individuals and institutions for their remarkable achievements.

This includes entities from the entertainment industry as well as non-entertainment sectors such as healthcare, mass media, and more.
