Remembering the legendary musician Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on his 14th death anniversary, singer-composer Papon on Wednesday paid heartfelt tribute to the cultural icon, describing his music as timeless and ever-inspiring.

Sharing a photo of Hazarika on Instagram, Papon wrote, “Remembering the enchanting voice of Assam, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, on his 14th death anniversary. As we celebrate his centenary year, his music echoes in our hearts and will continue to inspire generations to come.”

Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, whose compositions spoke of humanity, social justice, and unity, remains one of India’s most revered artists.

Over his illustrious career, he received numerous honours including the National Film Award for Best Music Direction, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and the Dada Saheb Phalke Award. Posthumously, he was conferred the Padma Vibhushan and Bharat Ratna in 2019.

Hazarika’s songs—rooted in Assamese folk and carrying universal messages—found resonance across linguistic and cultural boundaries, influencing generations of listeners in Assam, West Bengal, and Bangladesh.

He also played a pivotal role in bringing the music and culture of Northeast India to the national stage through Hindi cinema.

Papon, who began his musical journey in 1998 with the Assamese track Nasaba Sokule from Snigdha Junak, has often cited Hazarika as one of his greatest inspirations.

Over the years, he has carved a niche in both Assamese and Hindi music industries with soulful hits like Jiyein Kyun, Moh Moh Ke Dhaage, and Bulleya.
