GUWAHATI: As the electoral fervour intensifies in Assam, political heavyweights Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are slated to descend upon the state for campaigning on the same date, setting the stage for a high-octane showdown.

According to reports, Rahul Gandhi, the Member of Parliament from Wayanad, is scheduled to embark on his campaign trail in Assam on April 17.

Coincidentally, the date aligns with the Prime Minister’s planned public rally at Bidanchal ground in Borkura, Nalbari.

Anticipated as a day of riveting political discourse, Gandhi is expected to address gatherings at Jorhat and Dibrugarh on the same day.

His campaign in Jorhat, beginning at 11 am, will be in support of Gaurav Gogoi, the Congress candidate from the Jorhat constituency.

Subsequently, at 1 pm, Gandhi will shift his focus to Dibrugarh, extending his support to Assam Jatiya Parishad’s (AJP) candidate Lurinjyoti Gogoi, an ally of the INDIA Bloc.

Meanwhile, Assam Cabinet Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah has affirmed that PM Modi’s itinerary for the Assam visit remains unchanged, indicating the PM’s scheduled rally at Nalbari’s Borkura.

Preparations are already underway to ensure the success of the Prime Minister’s rally, with an estimated turnout exceeding two lakh attendees.

The political arena in Assam has been abuzz with activity, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah already on the campaign trail in the state.

Additionally, Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has been actively rallying support for the Congress in Nagaland, with plans to touch down in Assam ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s visit to oversee the preparations.

Amidst the escalating political tensions, the recent verbal sparring between Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Rahul Gandhi during the latter’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’s Assam leg has further intensified the political landscape in the state ahead of the polls.

With both Congress and BJP leaving no stone unturned to woo voters, Assam braces for a thrilling electoral spectacle as the campaign trail reaches its crescendo.
