Tamulpur: In a bid to bolster agricultural security and inform farmers about vital support systems, Assam’s Tamulpur district is set to observe “Crop Insurance Week” (Fasal Bima Saptah) from June 23 to June 29.
This initiative, organized by the district administration in collaboration with the Agriculture Department, aims to bring the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) to approximately 10,000 farmers.
Customer Service Centres (CSCs) will also play a key role in the week’s activities.
The decision to observe “Crop Insurance Week” was taken during a meeting on the “Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana” (Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme) on Friday (June 13). The meeting, chaired by District Commissioner Pankaj Chakravarty, was held at the conference hall of the District Commissioner’s office.
During the observation of the Crop Insurance Week, comprehensive awareness meetings will be conducted in each of the district’s 20 Village Council Development Councils (VCDCs).
The core objective of this campaign is to educate farmers on how to claim compensation for crop damages caused by natural disasters or other unforeseen circumstances under the PMFBY.
In addition to crop insurance, these sessions will also highlight other agricultural schemes offered by the Agriculture Department, ensuring farmers are aware of all available resources to maximize their benefits.
Under the PMFBY, farmers will receive their compensation through SBI General Insurance.
