GUWAHATI: The first chips from the newly announced Rs 27,000-crore Tata Semiconductor plant in Jagiroad are set to roll out by 2025.
This was informed by the Assam Chief Minister following a meeting with Chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, Ratan Tata, and Chairman N Chandrasekaran on Wednesday.
Highlighting the transformative potential of the facility in placing Assam prominently on the world semiconductor map, Chief Minister Sarma wrote on a micro-blogging website, “On behalf of the people of Assam, today in Mumbai, I conveyed our heartfelt gratitude to Shri @RNTata2000 and Shri N Chandrasekharan for displaying remarkable conviction and faith in our state to execute this mega game-changing investment.”
Highlighting the broader vision behind the project, the Chief Minister disclosed plans for a Skill Development Centre to be co-located within the premises of the semiconductor facility in Jagiroad.

This centre aims to empower the youth of Northeast by offering courses in Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, and electronics, thus facilitating employment opportunities within the Jagiroad unit.
“Already 1,500 youths from Assam, mainly women, are undertaking training at Tata facilities in and around Bangalore. This centre will empower youths from the Northeast by offering them courses in Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors & electronics and help them secure jobs in the Jagiroad unit,” he added, in a series of posts.
Chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, Ratan Tata, also expressed his gratitude to the people of Assam and lauded the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Sarma.
“Today, the state government of Assam, in partnership with the Tata group, will make Assam a major player in sophisticated semiconductors. This new development will put Assam on the global map,” remarked the veteran businessman, on social media.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Facility, valued at Rs 27,000 crore, in Jagiroad, Morigaon district on March 13.
This plant is among the three semiconductor projects, worth approximately ₹1.25 lakh crore, initiated by the Prime Minister on that day.
