Guwahati: Assam’s wildlife conservationist Dr. Purnima Devi Barman has been invited as a distinguished guest to participate in an extensive environmental education exchange program at Wilhelma Zoological and Botanical Garden in Stuttgart, Germany.
Barman is a senior biologist in the premier biodiversity conservation organisation Aaranyak.
Dr. Purnima Devi Barman, the winner of the United Nations Champion of the Earth Award and a two-time recipient of Green Oscars from the Whitley Fund for Nature including the Whitley Gold Award, will be sharing her expertise on wildlife conservation in Germany.
As part of this program, she will share her conservation experience through various environmental education sessions, workshops, talks, environmental education games and craft activities.
She has also been invited as a guest speaker at the annual conference of the most prestigious European Association of Zoos and Aquariums EAZA to be held at Leipzig Zoo in Germany from October 8 to October 12.
Over 900 people will attend the conference, where Dr. Purnima Devi Barman will have the opportunity to meet with officials, scientists, and conservationists from European zoos and aquariums.
She will deliver talks on the harmonious coexistence of the Adjutant Stork (Hargila) and people in Assam, as well as effective environmental education models for the adjutant stork and other avian species.
During her stay, Dr. Barman will visit several European zoos including a Zoo in Switzerland and Frankfurt to collaborate on conservation efforts and promote awareness about endangered species.
