Guwahati: Assam’s Angshuman Kalita has been selected as Scientist ‘C’ at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
Kalita, a resident of Dakuapara village in Boko, is the elder son of Gokul Chandra Kalita and Aditi Kalita.
He will join the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) in Thiruvananthapuram on February 14.
The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), South Kamrup, on Wednesday (February 5) felicitated Angshuman Kalita for his remarkable achievement of securing a position as Scientist ‘C’ at ISRO.
In recognition of his success, he was also felicitated by the Asom Jatiya Mahila Parishad at his residence.
Notably, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram, is the lead centre of ISRO responsible for the design and development of launch vehicle technology.
The Centre pursues active research and development in the fields of aeronautics, avionics, materials, mechanisms, vehicle integration, chemicals, propulsion, stage separation systems, structures, space physics, and systems reliability.
The Centre undertakes crucial responsibilities of design, manufacturing, analysis, development and testing related to the realization of subsystems for the different missions.
A former student of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Boko, Kalita pursued Mechanical Engineering at NIT Silchar, graduating in 2021.
He later cleared the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) examination and worked at BARC for six months before successfully securing an All India Rank of 40 in the ISRO recruitment examination.

Kalita shared his journey, highlighting the fact that he prepared for the competitive exams without any formal coaching.
“I never thought I would work for India’s top scientific organizations like BARC and ISRO. But I believed in my potential and focused on passing the exams through self-study,” he said.
