GUWAHATI: The harmonious chords of Assamese music fell silent as Bhupen Uzir, a legendary music director, bid adieu to the world at the age of 80.

He is survived by his wife and renowned vocalist, Shanta Uzir, and two daughters.

Admitted to the Nemcare Hospital on January 4, Uzir faced a series of health challenges, leaving the resident doctors grappling with the complexities of his medical condition.

Jeevan Surabhi was Uzir’s inaugural film as a music director, setting the stage for a prolific career spanning nearly 20 Assamese feature films.

The silver screen became his canvas, and every note he composed painted vivid emotions that resonated with audiences across Assam.

Before weaving musical tales, Uzir tread a different path as an employee of the Food Corporation of India (FCI).

However, his heart yearned for melodies, prompting him to embark on a journey to pursue his true passion.

In the heart of the city, he erected his own Auditech studio, a testament to his dedication to the art of sound.

Uzir leaves behind a symphony of memories and a grieving family.

As the news of Uzir’s demise reverberated across the state, tributes poured in from every corner.

Musician Zubeen Garg expressed his sorrow on social media, saying, “You are here, with me. Always. Love you Bhupen Da. ”

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal lamented the loss, stating, “His passing away is an irreparable loss to the cultural world of Assam.”

State minister Ashok Singhal acknowledged Uzir’s contribution, noting that his “soulful and melodious music contributed immensely to Assamese music and cinema”.

State minister Bimal Bora, deeply saddened by the loss, described Uzir as an “eminent music director” and highlighted the colossal impact of his legacy on Assam’s cultural landscape.

As the sun sets on Uzir’s musical journey, Assam mourns the departure of a maestro whose melodies will echo through the ages.

His compositions, an everlasting tribute to the soul-stirring power of Assamese music, will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who found solace in his tunes.
