GUWAHATI: The Assam Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden is gearing up for a innovative makeover, promising an immersive experience for visitors and enhanced living conditions for its diverse inmates.
The proposed transformation, approved by the government with an allocation of Rs 300 crore, following a detailed proposal from zoo officials, promises a blend of entertainment and education.
With an accurately planned approach, the revamped zoo aims to offer an enchanting experience while prioritising the welfare and safety of its inmates.
Key highlights of the project include the introduction of theme-based sections, a vibrant food court, an expansive auditorium, and enlarged enclosures.
These improvements are poised to elevate the visitor experience and provide a conducive environment for the welfare of the zoo’s residents.
In a strategic move, the redesigned enclosures will not only ensure better safety standards but also accommodate future expansions, facilitating efficient wildlife habitat management.
The zoo’s transformation into a jungle-like habitat will enable birds and animals to thrive in environments mirroring their natural habitats, fostering a sense of familiarity and comfort.
Among the notable additions are five distinct aviaries tailored to accommodate various avian species.
From the Amazon to indigenous birds, waterbirds, and vultures, each aviary is designed to provide a nurturing environment conducive to the well-being of its occupants.
Furthermore, the project encompasses state-of-the-art quarantine and veterinary laboratory facilities equipped with cutting-edge technology, underscoring the zoo’s commitment to optimal animal care and welfare.
Spread across a sprawling 432 acres within the Hengrabari Reserved Forest, the Assam State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden stands as the largest-of-its-kind in the Northeast.
Since its inauguration to the public in 1957, it has been a beacon of conservation efforts, housing more than 1125 animals, birds, and reptiles, representing over 115 species from across the globe.
With work set to commence, the Assam Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden is poised for a remarkable transformation, poised to captivate visitors and serve as a cornerstone in wildlife conservation efforts in the region.
