Rangia: Four days after a youth was reported dead following a road accident in Assam’s Tamulpur district, his family has alleged foul play, claiming he was beaten by a mob.
The family lodged a formal complaint at Tamulpur police station on Sunday, a senior officer confirmed.
The deceased, identified as 23-year-old Abhishek Das, was travelling with three friends on August 20 when their car reportedly met with an accident at Bharali Chowk.
According to his friends, after the crash, Abhishek stepped out of the vehicle to seek help but was allegedly attacked by locals.
Police reached the spot after being informed and rescued the group. Abhishek, who had suffered critical injuries, was taken to a hospital in Rangia, where doctors declared him dead, the official said.

“The family has filed a complaint today, and the matter is under investigation. No arrests have been made yet,” the officer added.
The case took a new turn after a video surfaced on Sunday, showing the three survivors injured inside the vehicle while a mob surrounded them.
Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Pramod Bodo visited the bereaved family later in the day, offering condolences and assuring a fair probe.
He promised strict action against those found guilty.
