Assam: Whisky brand All Seasons faces backlash over use of historic ‘Rang Ghar’ in ad; AAP to file FIR

Guwahati: Popular whisky brand All Seasons is facing widespread criticism after allegedly featuring an image of Rang Ghar, a historic amphitheater located in Assam’s Sivasagar district, in a recent promotional advertisement.

The alleged use of the heritage site in the advertisement has ignited public outrage, with many accusing the company of insensitivity towards Assam’s rich cultural and historical heritage.

Many have taken to social media to express their dismay, asserting that the advertisement disrespects both the iconic site and the local culture of the state.

Taking cognizance of the incident, the Aam Admi Party (AAP), Assam, decided to register an FIR against the company at Dispur Police Station on Monday (July 21).

The advertisement, which also featured the Kamakhya Temple, another revered site in Assam, has been criticized for misusing these cultural and spiritual symbols.

The Kamakhya Temple administration, objecting to the portrayal, demanded that the liquor company immediately take down all visuals involving the temple from the campaign.

The ad’s inappropriate depiction of the revered Kamakhya Temple, one of India’s holiest Shakti Peeths, is being widely condemned as deeply offensive and insensitive.

Netizens, cultural organizations, and even political leaders have voiced their objections to the advertisement, demanding its removal.

The All Assam Tai Ahom Students’ Union also slammed the brand for using Rang Ghar, a cultural treasure of the Ahom dynasty, in the advertisement, stating it hurts the sentiments of the Tai Ahom community.
