Guwahati: In an effort to enhance road safety and prevent vehicular accidents, the Assam Transport Department has installed radar speed detection devices along the National Highway in Guwahati.
The cutting-edge technology has been installed to monitor and control speeding vehicles, promoting a safer driving environment.
Two devices have been installed on both sides of the National Highway at Betkuchi in the city as part of an experimental phase.
The real-time speed of vehicles will be displayed on the machine, thereby acting as a deterrent to drivers crossing the speed limit.
According to sources, over 20 such devices will be set up at key locations across the city.
While the primary objective is to monitor and control speed, it is unclear whether the devices will automatically penalize vehicles for exceeding the speed limit.
Interceptors will continue to patrol the areas and monitor vehicles and take necessary action against violators so as to ensure effective implementation.
Both the state transport and police departments will oversee the operation of these devices to improve road safety and discipline among drivers.
This initiative seeks to decrease the number of road accidents resulting from speeding.
By leveraging advanced technology, the Assam government is reinforcing its commitment to enhancing traffic management and road safety.
