Guwahati: Topcem Cement has officially commenced its annual Bohag Bihu celebrations for 2025 with a special outreach initiative dedicated to old age homes and childcare institutions.
The programme was formally inaugurated at a press conference in Guwahati on Monday by Dr. Anil Kapur, Senior President – Sales & Marketing of Meghalaya Cements Ltd., the parent company of Topcem Cement.
The five-day celebration will engage 12 institutions across Kamrup (Metropolitan) and Kamrup districts, bringing traditional Assamese festivities to some of society’s most vulnerable members.
Each participating institution will host cultural performances, including Bihu songs and dances, along with the distribution of traditional Bihu delicacies like pitha and laru.
Special gift packages will also be presented to all institutions involved.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Kapur said, “Topcem is proud to support this initiative, which brings festive cheer to those who may otherwise miss out on such celebrations. We believe in continuing this tradition in the years ahead to foster joy and connection within these communities.”
The festivities began with an event at the Sonapur Government Old Age Home in Kamrup.
In the coming days, similar programs will be held at various locations, including Assam Sishu Kalyan Sadan (Jalukbari), Kalyani Niwas (Rupnagar), Santaneer Old Age Home (Amerigog), Shishu Sarothi (Birubari), Seneh – Bhabada Devi Memorial Home (Kahilipara), Amar Ghor (Pathar Quarry), Apon Ghor (Ashadeep, Boko), Maa Kamakhya Old Age Home (Bagharbari), Priyo Bandhu Bohumukhi Vidyalaya (Sonapur), and Ananda Old Age Home (Tezpur).

The initiative aims to create an inclusive festive environment for children and the elderly, fostering a sense of belonging, joy, and cultural pride.
It also highlights the contributions of voluntary organisations and individuals who work tirelessly to support those in need, particularly the elderly and children living in challenging conditions.
Since 2010, Topcem Cement has consistently marked Bohag Bihu with similar outreach programs in old age homes, orphanages, mental health facilities, and centres for specially-abled children.
