Guwahati: Assam will become the first state in the country to constitute the 8th Pay Commission following its formation by the Centre, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday.
Addressing mediapersons in Guwahati, Sarma said the state’s 8th Pay Commission will be headed by former additional chief secretary Subhas Das and will undertake a comprehensive revision of the pay structure of state government employees.
“The Centre has already constituted the 8th Pay Commission, but no state has taken a similar step so far. Assam will be the first to do so,” the chief minister said, describing the move as a major step towards employee welfare and progressive governance.
