Guwahati: Students of Tezpur University on Monday ( December 15) launched a nine-hour hunger strike starting at 9 am, stepping up their protest against Vice-Chancellor Prof Shambhu Nath Singh and calling for his immediate removal over alleged corruption and financial irregularities.
The students also announced a complete boycott of all academic and administrative activities until the Union Ministry of Education (MoE) issues a formal resolution addressing their demands.
The students said the protest was intensified after repeated peaceful demonstrations failed to elicit any response from the Ministry.
Student representatives said the absence of official communication has pushed the university into prolonged uncertainty, severely affecting academic functioning. They asserted that academic normalcy cannot return without transparent and decisive intervention from the Ministry to safeguard the institution’s integrity.
The protesting students reiterated that their main demand is the removal of Professor Shambhu Nath Singh from his post and said they would continue the boycott until the demand is fulfilled.
