GUWAHATI: The 134 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) Ecological, Assam, organized a large-scale plantation drive in Assam’s Sonitpur district on Tuesday to mark the conclusion of its Platinum Jubilee Year (1949-2024).
The 134 Ecological Task Force (ETF), established in 2007, has been instrumental in combating deforestation and restoring the region’s ecological balance.
As part of its Platinum Jubilee celebrations and the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, the ETF planted 10,000 fruit-bearing and shade-giving trees in the villages of Gamani, Rihajuli, and Chattai Garobasti in the Sonitpur district.
Since its inception, it has played a crucial role in environmental conservation in the Sonitpur and Biswanath districts of Assam.
Villagers from these communities actively participated in the plantation drive, joining forces with ETF personnel to enhance the green cover of their areas.
The event also included an awareness program to educate the community, especially children, about the importance of environmental conservation and the protection of vulnerable species of flora and fauna.
They highlighted that the success of any ecological mission depends on the active and wholehearted involvement of the local community.
