Guwahati: The National Zoological Park, popularly known as the Delhi Zoo, will send four black bucks to the Assam State Zoo.
Officials at the Assam State Zoo told Northeast News that the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has approved the transfer of the four black bucks from Delhi Zoo.
Two male and two female black bucks will arrive in Guwahati from the Delhi Zoo, the officials said.
In return, the Assam State Zoo is going to send a pair of Oriental Pied Hornbill to the Delhi Zoo.
The Assam State Zoo will also receive a pair of blue-and-yellow macaws, the officials said.
The animal exchange was approved by the MoEFCC on March 25, and is likely to be completed over the next fortnight, the zoo officials said.
The Delhi Zoo has also initiated the process to send a female Indian rhinoceros and a female Bengal Tiger to the Assam State Zoo.
In return, the Delhi Zoo has asked for a male tiger and a male rhino to keep its breeding programmes alive.
Last year, the Delhi Zoo had approached the Assam State Zoo for a male rhino. Since the Assam State Zoo expressed interest in Bengal Tigers, the National Zoological Park has agreed to give one female rhino and a female tiger.
