GUWAHATI: The Assam State Film (Finance and development) Corporation swung open the doors of a new cinema hall in Guwahati on the occasion of Magh Bihu on January 15.
Marking the corporation’s Golden Jubilee year, the cinema hall, named “Aideo”, is one of the five new halls to be constructed by the corporation along with renovation of nine existing ones in the state.
Inaugurating the hall at Jonaki Complex in Panjabari on Monday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while expressing gratitude to the Corporation for taking up the initiative, said that such initiatives will help bring back the golden age of Assamese movies.
“With 240 seats and a state-of-the-art Dolby sound system, this cinema hall is tailor-made for intimate gatherings. Four more cinema halls are on the verge of being completed and we want to do more in this regard. We have the funds to go ahead with the plan and I called upon local entrepreneurs to come forward and collaborate with the government to help Assamese cinema thrive again,” he told the press.
Stressing on the need to incorporate urban technology in presenting gripping narratives to the audience, the Chief Minister said that it’s time for Assamese cinema to embrace latest technological advancements for its betterment.
“Technology and tradition must walk hand-in-hand, forging a perfect synergy for the future of our cinema,” he said.
In a plea to the Assamese film industry and audience, Chief Minister Sarma passionately implored them to keep politics at bay.
“Let art be free from the shackles of politics,” he urged, highlighting the potential for creativity to flourish without external constraints.
Highlighting the corporation’s commitment to the arts, Chief Minister Sarma announced that the organisation had extended assistance to 56 regional language filmmakers and supported 239 artists through its Artist Welfare Corpus Fund.
Earlier in the day, CM Sarma participated in the “Youth Leadership Conclave 2024” organized by the Pragya Foundation at the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra International Auditorium in Panjabari.
The event, held in conjunction with the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, aimed to inspire and empower the youth towards leadership and positive change.
