Guwahati: In a moment of immense pride for Assam’s Karbi community and Northeast India, Srishti Rongpipi, a dedicated researcher, has secured admission to the University of Oxford’s prestigious MSc program in Evidence-Based Social Intervention and Policy Evaluation.

Her admission to Oxford University, following a highly competitive global selection process, marks a significant personal milestone and a groundbreaking achievement for her community.

Rongpipi’s admission is particularly notable as she will become the first Karbi scholar to study at the University of Oxford, consistently ranked among the world’s top universities.

She is the daughter of Retired Wing Commander Prasanta Kumar Rongpi, who was the first Karbi to join the Sainik School, the National Defence Academy (NDA), and the only Karbi to serve as an Indian Air Force pilot and commissioned defense officer.

Wing Commander Rongpi has been honoured with the “Best Karpipo Award” and the “Youth Icon Award” for his pioneering contributions.

Born on March 31, 1996, Srishti Rongpipi began her academic journey in Diphu, attending Mount Calvary School before moving to St. Mary’s School in Shillong, Meghalaya. Her early promise was evident as she excelled as a District Level Athlete, earning the Best Athlete Award in 2012, and achieved an impressive 90% in her MBOSE Class X examinations.

She continued her academic performance at Army Public School, Narengi, Guwahati, securing an outstanding 94% in her Class XII examinations. Pursuing her interest in human behaviour, Rongpipi earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Jesus and Mary College (JMC), University of Delhi, where she also served as President of the college’s debating society in 2016-17.

After graduation, Rongpipi initially focused on public service, successfully clearing the preliminary examinations for the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) in 2020. However, she chose to deepen her expertise by pursuing the esteemed Master of Public Policy program at the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore, where she graduated “with flying colours.”

Her NLSIU credentials led her to Sambodhi Research and Communications Pvt. Ltd., a prominent research firm, where she amassed four years of substantial experience in social development and policy analysis.

This formidable combination of a strong academic foundation across multiple prestigious institutions and impactful professional research experience was instrumental in navigating Oxford’s rigorous, multi-stage admissions process.

The MSc in Evidence-Based Social Intervention and Policy Evaluation program at Oxford is designed to equip scholars with the skills to critically evaluate, design, and implement effective social programs and policies.

Srishti is expected to commence her studies at Oxford University in October.
