GUWAHATI: Assam’s singing sensation, Nahid Afrin, has been appointed as UNICEF India’s Youth Advocate, marking a significant milestone in her career.
Taking to the microblogging website, the young singer expressed her gratitude and wrote “Appointed as the UNICEF India Youth Advocate along with my friends Gaurangshi, Kartik and Vinisha.Highly honoured and privileged!Also had a great time sharing the stage with our newly appointed Unicef India National Ambassador @kareenakapoorkhan And stay tuned for the podcast.”
Besides Nahid, UNICEF India has also appointed its first-ever Youth Advocates – Gauranshi Sharma from Madhya Pradesh, Kartik Verma from Uttar Pradesh and Vinisha Umashankar from Tamil Nadu.
UNICEF India’s decision to appoint its first-ever Youth Advocates highlights the non-profit organisation’s commitment to empowering young leaders to champion critical issues such as climate action, mental health, innovation, and Girls in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).
Nahid, along with her peers, represents a new generation of change-makers dedicated to driving positive change for children and young people across India.
These appointments align with UNICEF’s global initiative, with Nahid and her counterparts joining a cohort of over 93 youth advocates worldwide, collectively working towards advancing children’s rights and well-being.
Meanwhile, actor Kareena Kapoor Khan assumes the role of UNICEF India’s National Ambassador, reaffirming her longstanding commitment to the organisation’s mission.
Having been associated with UNICEF India since 2014, Kareena brings her passion and advocacy to support initiatives aimed at promoting children’s rights to early childhood development, health, education, and gender equality.
In a statement issued by UNICEF, Kareena highlighted the paramount importance of safeguarding children’s rights, recognising them as the future generation.
She expressed deep honour in her continued association with UNICEF, now in her role as India’s National Ambassador, pledging to continue her efforts in advocating for the rights and well-being of every child.
