Assam Secretariat team shines at All India Civil Services Badminton Tournament in Goa

Assam Secretariat team shines at All India Civil Services Badminton Tournament in Goa

Guwahati: The Assam Secretariat badminton team delivered an outstanding performance at the All India Civil Services (AICS) Badminton Tournament 2025–26, clinching the gold medal in the Women’s Team event, securing fourth place in the Men’s Team category, and adding three individual medals to their tally at the national-level tournament held in Goa.

The tournament was organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare, Goa at the Dayanand Bandodkar Krida Sankool in Peddem, Mapusa, from February 15 to 21, 2026, bringing together top civil service athletes from across the country.

The Assam women’s team, represented by Rikshita Chaliha, Suzen Buragohain, Manali Bora and Lata Barua, dominated the team event to claim the gold medal with a series of commanding performances.

The men’s team also made a strong impression, defeating several prominent teams, including last year’s champions RSB Shimla, on their way to the semi-finals before finishing fourth overall.

The Assam men’s team comprised Nibir Ranjan Choudhury, Ayan Rashid, Himanish Sekhar Das, Jayraj Pegu, Abhishek Borah, Prof Dr Jyotirmoy Sarmah, Bishnu Kr Deka, Ranjit Gogoi, Himangshu Bora, Pranjal Panging and Saumitra Das.

The squad was coached by Bubul Borah, with Himon Jyoti Bez serving as team manager.

At the individual level, Assam added three more medals to its campaign.

Nibir Ranjan Choudhury won gold in Men’s Doubles, Manali Bora secured silver in Mixed Doubles, while Bishnu Kr Deka and Ranjit Gogoi claimed bronze in the 50+ Men’s Doubles category.

The AICS Badminton Tournament is held annually under the aegis of the Central Civil Services Cultural and Sports Board, which functions under the Department of Personnel and Training, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, New Delhi.

The event features permanent government employees from state and central services, representing their respective state governments and Regional Sports Boards.

This year’s edition witnessed participation from over 1,000 players representing 46 Secretariat and Regional Sports Board teams from across the country, making it one of the largest editions of the tournament.

Assam’s sporting community has hailed the performance of the Assam Secretariat team as one of its best-ever showings at the national civil services level, with the team receiving widespread praise for its achievements under the patronage of the Government of Assam’s Department of Sports and Youth Welfare.
