Guwahati: The Kamrup (Metropolitan) district administration has rescheduled school timings across the district in view of the prevailing cold weather conditions, officials said on Tuesday.
The revised timings will be effective from January 7 to January 13, 2026, and will apply to all government, provincialised and private schools in the district.
The decision has been taken following directions from the District Commissioner, Kamrup Metro, keeping in mind the health and safety of students.
Under the new schedule, primary schools will function from 10 am to 1.30 pm, upper primary schools from 10 am to 2 pm, and secondary and senior secondary schools from 10 am to 2.30 pm.

The Inspector of Schools-cum-District Mission Coordinator of Samagra Siksha Abhiyan, Kamrup (Metro), directed all heads of institutions to strictly adhere to the revised timings, warning that any deviation would be viewed seriously.
The order has been issued in the interest of public safety and student welfare.
Officials clarified that the rescheduling of class hours will not affect pre-scheduled examinations, which will be conducted as per earlier notifications.
