Guwahati: In celebration of World Theatre Day, SAMAHAR Natya Gosthee will stage its acclaimed play Nyay in Guwahati on March 27.
Written and directed by renowned theatre personality Dr. Sitanath Lahkar, the play will be performed at the Sri Sri Madhavadeva International Auditorium at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra, starting at 6:45 pm.
Eminent scholar and former Gauhati University professor Dr. Abani Kumar Bhagawati will grace the event as the chief guest.
He will inaugurate the performance and deliver a speech on the significance of World Theatre Day, which has been observed annually since its inception in Paris in 1961 as a platform for socially conscious theatre practitioners.
Speaking on the occasion, SAMAHAR President Lalit Chandra Sarma highlighted the importance of the day.
“World Theatre Day holds immense significance for every theatre practitioner. Given the current societal challenges in our state and country, SAMAHAR decided to mark this day with a presentation of Nyay,” he said.
Nyay addresses the harrowing issues of lynching and sexual violence, portraying the struggles of a rape survivor as she battles societal stigma and seeks justice.
The play sheds light on the emotional and legal challenges faced by victims, emphasising the resilience required to navigate such ordeals.
