Guwahati: Assam has launched a major women’s health initiative that will see nearly 15,000 medical camps set up across the state over the next two weeks.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the campaign in Bongaigaon on Tuesday, announcing that 4,297 camps began operations on the first day.

The drive, titled Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan, is being held from September 17 to October 2 across all 35 districts of the state.

“This is our commitment to safeguard the health, dignity and empowerment of women,” Sarma said while highlighting that the programme aligns with the Centre’s focus on women’s well-being.

The fortnight-long campaign forms part of the Seva Saptah observances, marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday.

Alongside health screening, the government has lined up a series of initiatives including blood donation drives, plantation activities, and distribution of welfare benefits.

The Assam State Blood Transfusion Council has scheduled 75 blood donation camps, while over 30 lakh saplings are being planted in 20,000 schools and institutions.

Special health camps for children are also planned in every assembly constituency.

Other welfare measures during the week-long observance include financial support for tuberculosis patients, recognition of young writers with cash awards of Rs. 25,000 each, distribution of land titles to religious institutions, and the rollout of the third edition of the Orunodoi scheme benefiting 38 lakh women.

Extending birthday greetings to the Prime Minister, Sarma said Assam has made “remarkable progress” under his leadership.

He also offered prayers for Modi’s long life and good health at Maa Kamakhya temple and in the name of Srimanta Sankaradeva.
