Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday expressed his concern over the loss of lives caused by landslides in Darjeeling, West Bengal, and the ongoing situation in rain-hit Sikkim, assuring that all possible assistance would be provided to help manage the crisis.
“We are extremely distressed by the devastation and loss of lives in Darjeeling and elsewhere in North Bengal due to heavy rains. On behalf of the people of Assam we are ready to provide any support to the Govt of West Bengal in rescue and relief operations,” CM Sarma posted on X.
The death toll from the devastating landslides in Darjeeling district has risen to 24, as disaster management teams continued rescue operations on Monday. Several people remain missing, and thousands of tourists are stranded in isolated hill areas.
The people of Assam stand shoulder to shoulder with our brothers and sisters in Sikkim in this hour of crisis.
The chief minister said that the Assam government is committed to extending any possible assistance that is required to deal with the ongoing floods and landslides.
