Guwahati: The Rajya Sabha on Monday bid farewell to former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi, whose six-year term as a nominated member of the House came to an end.
Presiding over the proceedings, Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan lauded Gogoi’s contribution to the House, describing him as a distinguished jurist who brought extensive legal expertise and experience to parliamentary discussions.
He said Gogoi’s interventions during debates reflected a profound understanding of legislative processes and a strong commitment to public interest.
The chairman noted that the House would miss Gogoi’s thoughtful advice, balanced views and the sense of dignity he brought to its deliberations.

On behalf of the members, Radhakrishnan conveyed his best wishes to Gogoi, who hails from Assam, and expressed hope that he would continue to serve the nation in various capacities with the same dedication, integrity and spirit of public service that marked his distinguished career.
Ranjan Gogoi, the 46th Chief Justice of India (2018–2019) and the first from the Northeast, was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by President Ram Nath Kovind in March 2020.
