Guwahati: Eighteen Bangladeshi nationals living in Assam without valid documents were deported on Saturday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced.
The individuals were repatriated in the early hours from Cachar and Sribhumi districts as part of the state government’s intensified campaign against illegal immigration. Sharing the development on social media platform X, Sarma wrote: “Oh look who’s going back to their home? In Assam, we welcome guests with open arms but those trying to illegally prolong their stay are treated with the special gesture of PUSHBACK.”
He further stated: “18 illegal Bangladeshis pushed back today in wee hours from Cachar and Sribhumi.”
The action is part of a broader crackdown by Assam Police on undocumented immigrants, with a particular focus on Bangladeshi nationals.

According to the Chief Minister, nearly 330 individuals have been sent back over the past month alone, and more such pushbacks are expected in the coming weeks.
The state government has reiterated its commitment to tightening surveillance and enforcing immigration laws strictly across Assam.
