Guwahati: Assam has pushed back 15 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh as part of its ongoing drive against infiltration, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday.
Reaffirming the state government’s tough stance, Sarma said strict action would continue against those entering Assam illegally. In a post on X late Saturday night, the chief minister said the group was escorted back across the border by security forces.
“Assam doesn’t do late-night parties, only late-night returns. That’s exactly what happened as 15 illegal Bangladeshis were smoothly escorted back to Bangladesh by our alert forces,” Sarma wrote. He added that border security agencies remain vigilant and fully prepared to act.

The chief minister, however, did not disclose the district from which the individuals were pushed back.
Assam has stepped up measures along its international boundary in recent months, with authorities intensifying surveillance and enforcement to prevent illegal immigration from Bangladesh.
