Guwahati: The West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Ltd (WAMUL) on Monday hiked its milk procurement rate by Rs 2 per litre with immediate effect.
The decision by the Guwahati-based cooperative, which markets milk and milk products under the Purabi Dairy brand, will directly benefit around 25,000 dairy farmers.
With effect from December 11, all milk producer members shall get a basic price of Rs 39 per litre milk having 4 per cent fat and 8.5 per cent Solid Not Fat, a statement issued by WAMUL, said.
The milk cooperative has also announced an incentive for the period December 11 to January 20 for the milk producers.
During the incentive period, which aimed at Magh Bihu, the base rate will be Rs 40 per litre, the WAMUL said.
However, the organization did not mention anything on the possibilities in rise in retail price of milk and milk products because of hike in milk procurement rate.
