Guwahati: Assam Police seized narcotics valued at Rs. 30 crore during an anti-narcotics operation in Cachar district, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday.
The operation led to the recovery of over 98,000 Yaba tablets, a highly addictive drug, from Chandrapur Part II, Kakmara, under Lakhipur Police Station.
A suspect was arrested during the raid, and Rs. 3.5 lakh in cash was also confiscated.
Taking to social media, the Chief Minister praised the efforts of the police, stating:
“Massive Drug Bust in Assam: 98,000 Yaba Tablets Seized Worth Rs. 30 Crore! Thanks to credible intelligence, @cacharpolice launched an anti-narcotics operation resulting in this major success. Kudos to @assampolice for their tireless efforts towards a #DrugFreeAssam.”
The success of this operation highlights Assam’s strengthened resolve to combat drug trafficking as part of its ongoing campaign against narcotics.
In a parallel operation, Tripura Police seized 1.06 lakh methamphetamine tablets, valued at Rs. 5.5 crore, in the West Tripura district.
Acting on a tip-off, authorities raided the residence of Mohammad Babul Miah (45) in the Mahiskhala Chandinnamura area near Agartala city on Thursday night.
During the raid, police confiscated the tablets, five smartphones, and two motorbikes. Miah, along with two other suspects, Sipan Hussain (26) and Sanjay Miah (42), was arrested.

A case under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, has been registered, and the accused will be presented in court.
The operation was led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Sadar) Deba Prasad Roy, with assistance from West Agartala Police Station personnel.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who also oversees the Home Department, commended the police for their efforts in strengthening the state’s campaign against drug trafficking, reiterating his commitment to a ‘drug-free Tripura.’
