Guwahati: Assam Police, in a joint operation with the Border Security Force (BSF), seized narcotic substances worth Rs 6.6 crore and arrested one person in Sribhumi district, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday.
During the operation conducted in the Sekharbond area, the security personnel recovered around 22,000 Yaba tablets, the chief minister said in a post on X.
“@sribhumipolice and @BSF_India didn’t knock, they stormed Sekharbondh, seized 22,000 Yaba tablets and arrested one peddler,” Sarma wrote.
According to police, the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs about the movement of a drug consignment along the India-Bangladesh border.
The arrested person is being interrogated to trace the network and source of the drugs, police said.
Chief Minister Sarma lauded the police and BSF teams for their coordinated action, stating that the state government remains committed to eradicating the menace of drug trafficking.
Over the past few months, Assam Police has intensified anti-narcotics operations across the state, leading to several major recoveries of Yaba tablets and heroin consignments smuggled from neighbouring regions.
