Guwahati: In a major clampdown on drug trafficking, Assam police’s Special Task Force (STF) seized drugs valued at Rs 2.2 crore on Saturday, officials said.
Police also arrested a woman drug peddler in Guwahati during the operation.
An Assam Police spokesman said that the STF personnel, acting on information, arrested a woman from Sawkuchi, near Guwahati, and seized 278.28 grams of heroin worth Rs 2.2 crore.
The arrested woman has been identified as Sajida Begum (32).
“Rs 1,49,500 and a mobile phone were also recovered from her possession,” he said.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the STF personnel for the recovery of the drugs.
On April 18, the STF personnel seized drugs worth Rs 71 crore.
As per reports, heroin and highly addictive methamphetamine tablets, valued at Rs 71 crore, were seized during two separate operations at the Amingaon area in Assam’s Kamrup district on Friday.
Police said that the drivers of both the vehicles in which the drugs were transported were apprehended in this connection.
During the search operation, the STF personnel recovered 2,70,000 Yaba tablets valued at Rs 67 crore from a truck.
Additionally, 520 grams of heroin, worth approximately Rs 4 crore, were found concealed in 40 soap boxes inside a Hyundai car.
According to police, both the methamphetamine tablets, also known as Yaba or party tablets, and the heroin were smuggled from Myanmar.
