Guwahati: In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking, Assam police have successfully seized drugs worth over Rs 11 crore in three separate operations carried out across the state’s Cachar and Karbi Anglong districts.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the successful operations on Tuesday, highlighting the state’s commitment to tackling the drug menace.
The first operation took place late on Monday night in the Dighar Fulertol area of Cachar district.
Here, police officers seized a substantial haul of 1.17 kilograms of suspected heroin, valued at approximately Rs 5.1 crore.
The drugs were found hidden, and authorities suspect this was part of a larger trafficking network operating in the region.

In a second operation in Dhanehari, also in Cachar district, law enforcement officials recovered 73.97 kilograms of ganja, estimated to be worth Rs 38 lakh.
This seizure forms part of the state’s ongoing crackdown on narcotic substances being smuggled into and through Assam.
The third major bust occurred in Karbi Anglong district, where a bus coming from a neighbouring state was intercepted at Dillai Tiniali.
Police managed to seize 1.22 kilograms of suspected heroin, valued at Rs 6 crore.
The interception underscores the state’s vigilance in monitoring transport routes often used for smuggling drugs.
“Drugs haul worth over Rs 11 crore. In three separate anti-narcotics operations carried out by units of @assampolice…. Good job! #AssamAgainstDrugs,” the Chief Minister praised the efforts of the police on social media, emphasising the state government’s strong stance against the illegal drug trade.
While the chief minister confirmed the large-scale seizures, he did not provide details on whether any arrests were made in connection with the operations.
The police have yet to release further information on the progress of investigations or whether suspects were apprehended during the busts.
The success of these operations follows a series of intensified efforts by Assam police to combat the illegal drug trade in the region, as part of broader efforts to improve public safety and curb narcotic abuse.
The state has faced significant challenges due to the strategic location of Assam, which serves as a transit route for drugs coming from neighbouring countries.
The seizures underscore the need for continued vigilance and cooperative efforts to address drug trafficking, which has been a persistent problem in Assam and other northeastern states.
The government has reiterated its commitment to taking stringent measures to dismantle drug networks and prevent the spread of substance abuse within the state.
