Dibrugarh: In a bizarre incident, an Assam Police official shot himself to death on Saturday morning after allegedly shooting at a woman in Upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district.
Official sources told Northeast News that the police officer, identified as Anupam Gowala, opened fire at an unidentified woman on Sunday morning at Rangpuria near Lahowal in Dibrugarh district.
Inspector Anupam Gowala, who was serving as the officer-in-charge of Namrup Police Station, reportedly killed himself after firing at the unidentified woman.
The woman, who sustained multiple bullet injuries, is undergoing treatment at Assam Medical College and Hospital.
Though the police officials have not divulged the identity of the woman, her condition has been reported to be critical because of excessive bleeding.
Following the incident, senior police officials from Dibrugarh reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident.
The body of Inspector Anupam Gowala was also sent to the Assam Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.
