Guwahati: In a significant operation, the South Salmara-Mankachar Police on Friday busted an organized racket involved in the forgery and distribution of fake PAN cards across India.
A team led by ASP HQ, OC Mankachar PS, and SI(P) Sonudev Barman conducted a raid at the residence of Zamir Hussain, a resident of Thakuranbari Mankachar area, and seized crucial evidence.
During the operation, police recovered 20 fake PAN cards in sealed covers. The police also seized approximately 250 forged PAN application forms attached with fraudulent Voter ID cards and seals.
The seized items included a fake official seal, a stamp pad used for forgery, a laptop, printer, photoprint papers, a register of applicant details and signatures, and an envelope containing a forged PAN card addressed to Gobin Yadav in Chennai.
Upon preliminary interrogation, Zamir Hussain admitted to his involvement in the operation of the illicit PAN card racket in conjunction with Sajidul Islam, the proprietor of Ayan Mobile Shop, Thakuranbari.
The duo allegedly manufactured fake PAN cards and supplied them across India.
Sajidul Islam is currently absconding, and efforts are underway to trace him.
An FIR has been registered, and the accused is in custody for further interrogation. Further investigations are ongoing as police suspect the involvement of a broader network.
