Guwahati: A suspected member of the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and Jamaat-Ul-Mujahideen (JAM) was arrested by the Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF) in Kokrajhar district on Monday, according to authorities.
The individual, identified as Nasimuddin SK, was apprehended following a coordinated operation by the STF and local police based on intelligence received from reliable sources.
Nasimuddin SK is reportedly a close associate of Nur Islam Mandal, a key figure already detained in connection with several terror-related incidents in the Kokrajhar region.
The police have claimed that SK was a co-conspirator in efforts to acquire firearms and manufacture Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), intended for use by extremist groups.
The arrested individual is facing multiple charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Arms Act, the Explosives Act, the Passport Act, and the Foreigners’ Act.
This arrest is part of the ongoing anti-terror operation, ‘Operation PRAGHAT,’ which commenced in December 2024.
The operation aims to dismantle extremist networks and curb the activities of Global Terrorist Organisations (GTO) within India.
Following his arrest, Nasimuddin SK was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Kokrajhar and has been remanded to police custody for seven days.
In related developments, the Assam Police had previously made significant arrests in Kokrajhar.
On December 25, two suspected members of a terror network were detained along with a large haul of arms and ammunition in the Namapara area.

Earlier, on the night of December 17-18, Assam Police arrested eight individuals, including one from Bangladesh, in a series of coordinated inter-state operations.
These arrests led to the dismantling of an alleged plot to establish sleeper cells for carrying out subversive activities across the country.
The arrests are part of ongoing efforts by Indian authorities to combat extremism and prevent terror activities within the nation.
