Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the new terminal building of Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport in Assam’s Guwahati
During the inauguration, PM Modi also took a tour of the new terminal building.
The newly inaugurated Terminal 2 building of the Guwahati airport is designed to handle around 13.1 million passengers per year and was built at a cost of Rs 4,000 crore.
Taking to X, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Witness Assam’s aviation transformation. The Integrated Terminal of Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport- officially inaugurated by Adarniya Shri @narendramodi ji.”
The Prime Minister also unveiled an 80-foot statue of Assam’s first Chief Minister, Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi, on the premises of Guwahati Airport.
“This statue, crafted by the legendary sculptor, Late Ram Sutar ji is a befitting tribute to the great leader and its placement right at the entry point to the gateway of South East Asia makes it even more special,” the chief minister said.

According to officials, the total cost of the project is Rs 5,000 crore, out of which Rs 1,000 crore was earmarked specifically for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities.
Officials said the design of the new terminal building draws inspiration from Assam’s rich biodiversity and cultural heritage. The terminal spans an area of 1,40,000 square metres.
