Guwahati: The 77th biennial session of the Axam Sahitya Sabha (ASS), the biggest literary organization of Assam, will commence from January 31 to February 4 at Bhattadev Kshetra in Pathsala.

Pathsala town, which is known as a cultural and education hub of Assam, is situated in the Bajali district.

Litterateurs from America, Germany, the UK, Nepal, Arunachal Pradesh, and several other countries will also participate in the conference.

The preparation for the session is going on in full swing and 60 percent of the work has been completed in Pathsala.

With only 8 days remaining for the session, preparations are complete for the main stage, encompassing the book fair premises, trade fair, exhibition, and Naamghar.

The committee members have arranged accommodations for the guests and expect over 500,000 representatives from across the state.

The celebration committee is fully prepared to welcome thousands of people. To cater to the guests, traditional Assamese delicacies such as laru and pitha will be served with morning tea, followed by puri-sabzi for breakfast and vegetarian dishes for lunch.

The committee expects between 1,00,000 and 2,00,000 people to attend the five-day session.

This year’s session will feature a science fair in Bajali hat, aiming to bridge the gap between science and literature. Additionally, a cultural program will be held to showcase the diverse traditions and cultures of various tribes in Assam and the Northeast.

A massive japi, a symbol of Assamese culture, is being built at the site. This magnificent structure will serve as a grand welcome for literature enthusiasts from across Assam and the nation.

Crafted from 1,500 ‘Tokou’ leaves sourced from Arunachal Pradesh, this japi will be a key attraction of the session.

Ranjeet Kumar Dass, the president of the organizing committee, informed that more than 400 guests from both home and abroad will attend the conference.

Giridhar Choudhury, Secretary of the Organizing Committee said, “Our preparations are in full swing and almost 60 percent of work has been completed so far in ‘Bhattadev Kshetra’ at Pathsala, a huge agricultural field.”

He added, “We expect more than 900,000 people, including 5,000 delegates from regional Sahitya Sabha committees across the state, to attend the event in Pathsala.”
